T.A. Walmisley, Cambridge Collection of Chants. English, c.1851.

[Thomas Attwood Walmisley (1814-1856)]: autograph manuscript copy of the original version of the “Cambridge Collection of Chants”, as edited by Walmisley. The volume was given to Walmisley’s pupil, Daniel Wilberforce Rootham, in 1851. In a note added to the front endpaper on 19th September, 1913, Rootham writes that he “copied Kelway in B minor, Kelway in A minor, and played them through to him [Walmisley], and practised the Choir-boys in them; which I continued doing, the fact of William Amps, who was my senior, being appointed Organist of Kings College, Cambridge, rendering my help in that direction a necessity”.Walmisley was Organist of St John’s College and Trinity College, Cambridge, 1833-1856. He was made Professor of Music in 1836.
