Corelli sonatas. English. 18th century.

 

The score of the forty eight sonatas, compos’d by Arcangelo Corelli for two violins, a violon cello & thorough bass. The whole carefully written by J. Christopher Smith, copyist to George Frederick Handel.

 

373 x 275 mm. 351 pages of manuscript musical score. Occasional additional dynamics added in pencil. Hardbound in leather with gold tooling on spine and boards, marbled endpapers.


College bookplate. Typed donation label “Ex libris Johannes Robertus Lunn Collegii olim Socii dono dedit filius.  A.S. 1961”. John Robert Lunn (1831-1899) graduated fourth Wrangler in the Mathematical Tripos in 1853, was a Fellow of St John’s 1855-1864, and served as Vicar of Marton-cum-Grafton from 1863 until his death. Stamped E.A. Lunn on title page (presumably Ernest Arthur Lunn). Pencil inscription on flyleaf “From the Library of the Rev’d Nathaniel Palmer Johnson, Weston upon Trent”.
