A Horoscope. Latin, 1681

 

'Horoscopus Nativitatis / Ad diem XXV Aprilis MDCLXXXI., / & horas XI., minuta LVI. horologii / Italici / Sub / Regione, seu Polo graduum / XXXXII., & minutorum / XXXX'. Loose in the vol. is a bifolium, titled 'Parere del Sig' Valentino Melchiorri Comes', with an introductory paragraph in Italian.

Manuscript extra information

320x220 mm. (the bifolium 267x196 mm.). ii+98+viii (blank) fos. On title page (fo. 1r) in another hand: 'Elias Ashmole MS', and 'MSS NiC 97' (?) Ashmole died in 1692. On facing flyleaf 'From Sir Edm. Frezburge Berlin'. There is no one of this name in Shaw, Knights of England. Presented to the College by Richard Pendlebury (1847-1902), Fellow of St John's, 1898 (donation plate inside front cover). The number 105 and the price 10s. are pencilled on flyleaf.

The vol. in a single hand throughout, with the loose paper in a different, much smaller hand. Paper, a one-inch square cut from the bottom of the flyleaf. Leather on boards, gilt panelled spine, with title: 'Horosco [...] Nativitat [...] C C C'.
